Social distancing day 5: rock painting

Today's project was broken into two chunks, washing rocks and painting rocks.  I gave the kids each an old toothbrush and a bucket of water and let them decide how they wanted to wash the rocks.  Wren needed a dry shirt afterwards (despite wearing her rain jacket) and Flynt needed dry pants.  They had a lovely time.

The goal with painting was to keep the paint contained.  The setup was two lawn and leaf bags to keep the paint off of the deck, an empty peanut butter jar with water to rinse the brushes between colors and a scrub rag to dry the brushes.  Both kids have painting smocks and it actually was way calmer than I expected.  Sometimes Flynt can get a little wild but he really had fun seeing what happened when he added colors to his rock.  At one point his rock was really quite beautiful but then he mixed everything up until it was brown.  Oh well, we all had fun.  It was a delightful way to spend some time today.

It's funny, Wren has picked up on things enough that this morning she asked me "Momma, what is the project that we are going to play today?"  I love it!
