Jeff and I both went out for some fresh air and exercise on our own too. I got in a short run and Jeff took a longer mountain bike ride. Things like that really help us feel better.
Today we decided to make a movie. Wren came up with the script. When we talked about what we needed for props and costumes Wren decided we needed crowns. I had some yellow felt, glitter glue, buttons, pompoms, and old headbands so we were in luck!
First I asked Wren and Flynt to draw the type of crown they wanted on a piece of paper. My original idea included tracing it and cutting it out they way it was drawn but that didn't really seem like a good idea once I saw what they drew since I wanted them to be able to actually have a wearable end product but it was a good starting place and had some good talking points.
Adding the glitter glue was a grownup job but I got a lot of input from Wren. Flynt picked a couple of buttons and pompoms and said he wanted a blue diamond and then lost interest and wandered off after it was about half done so I got to make some executive decisions.
The glitter glue took forever to dry. We had some good sandbox play while we were waiting by taking some plastic animals outside to play in the sandbox with us. Flynt absolutely loved burying them and digging them back up. That game was definitely his speed.
The glitter glue was still really wet after lunch so I used a hair drier to speed things up. I then sewed the felt to some old headbands after measuring on the kids to make sure the band had room to stretch under the crown part.
I asked Wren to write the title of our show for some writing practice. It is "The Princess of Boise".
Then we made our show.
So many giggles. Wren loves watching it. It was a fun project and it took a good chunk of the day. The kids loved it. I made Wren come up with a script that included Flynt in a way that he was happy with (yep, my boy loves to play princess, I think its great. He loves his big sister.)
Yea Boise Princesses
